THE WORK BEHIND THE STORY

Development
journal.

Progress notes, newest first. Earlier entries remain here as the project develops.

Issue 1 is finished — now available on Amazon Kindle

The first issue of The Price of Freedom, The Girl He Left, is now finished, and its Kindle edition is live on Amazon. What began as a screenplay has become a complete illustrated opening chapter, shaped page by page through artwork, dialogue, and careful attention to the characters. You can now purchase Issue 1 using the Purchase on Amazon button on this page. This is the completion of the first issue, not the end of the series. Creation of Issue 2 will begin soon, and I will continue sharing its progress here. Thank you for following the journey and supporting my original stories.

Page 32 complete — nearing the end of Issue 1

Page 32 of The Price of Freedom: Issue 1 — The Girl He Left is now finished, bringing the first issue closer to its ending. Watching the screenplay become a sequence of illustrated pages has given each exchange, expression, and quiet moment a different kind of presence. Throughout this process, I have focused on keeping the characters and settings consistent while giving the conversations enough room to breathe. My attention now turns to the remaining pages and bringing this opening chapter to its close. Issue 1 is not finished yet, but its ending is getting closer. Thank you for following the story as it takes shape.

Issue 1 progresses to Page 19

Artwork development for Issue 1 — The Girl He Left has reached Page 19. Alongside creating new pages, I am revisiting individual panels to refine expressions, gaze, character appearance, and the continuity of rooms and environments. The warm visual style is becoming more consistent as I sharpen and upscale selected artwork and prepare clean panels for later lettering. This remains an iterative process: reaching Page 19 does not mean that every preceding page is final. My next steps are to continue the illustrated story, review the flow between panels, and bring the artwork and dialogue together. The adaptation is planned as ten issues, with each chapter given the page count its pacing needs. Issue 1 is still in development, and the selected previews offer an early look at its direction.

Introducing Issue 1 — The Girl He Left

The first issue of The Price of Freedom comic book now has a title: The Girl He Left. I have designed its cover, giving this opening chapter its own visual identity within the wider story. Following the completion of Draft 1, Revision 5 of the screenplay, the comic adaptation is developing the story through artwork and illustrated pages. The comic has its own project page and development journal, with a preview space ready for the first pages when they are ready to share. Issue 1 remains in development, and I will continue sharing its progress here.

The comic book begins

I have started adapting The Price of Freedom into a comic book. With the screenplay complete, I am now developing the artwork and shaping the story into illustrated pages. This journal will follow the comic’s progress as it takes shape. An excerpt space is ready, and I will add the first pages when they are ready to share.
